Number Plates - The Process
There is a common misconception that the process of buying a private number plate is complicated.
Wrong!
Once you have chosen your plate from EA51REG, you will receive a certificate, a V750, Certificate to Entitlement to a Vehicle Registration Mark from us.
You simply need to take this along with the following to your local DVLA office:
- existing V5 Vehicle Registration Document document, ('logbook')
- a copy of your MOT certificate - if applicable
- a photocopy of your VED, ('tax disc') - not the original
The DVLA will then send you a new VED, ('tax disc'), with your new plate and a new V5 Vehicle Registration Document document, ('logbook') with your new plate details. You then take this information to someone to make up the actual plates - or if we have provided them, you simply put the new plates on your car.
The only final point to remember is that you need to tell your insurance company about this. There won't be any extra charge but they do need to know about this.
